South West Region

Keeping in Touch

South West Region (our region) is one of 16 regions throughout Great Britain.

The aims

  • Region aims to promote communication and co-operation between neighbouring intergroups thus implementing our Tradition of Unity.
  • To share intergroup experience in the field of co-operation with outside agencies, prisons, health services, schools, social services, alcohol abuse agencies, churches, Probation Service, industry, and any other appropriate institutions and areas of society.
  • To ensure that the Region can recognise areas that are sparsely served by the Fellowship do not remain isolated but become part of the region’s responsibility.
  • To increase opportunity for members to participate in our Third Legacy of Service.

What I do: easy wins - Alcoholics Anonymous

As you will see from the diagram, SW Region is providing a link between your Intergroup and the AA Conference of Great Britain. Each Region sends 6 delegates to the Conference each year, one for each Committee.

Here you will find Agenda’s and minutes from our quarterly Region meeting, which is held in Exeter every March, June, September and December.

Also details of any upcoming workshops and PI Initiatives.

Anyone can go to Region as an observer and the meeting is now Hybrid so you can catch it online.

Conference

What is the General Service Conference of AA in Great Britain for?

It is the Group Conscience of the whole of the Fellowship of AA in Great Britain.
Bill W handed over the guardianship of AA to its members at the 1955 Conference in St. Louis, realising that the founders of AA would no longer be around to guide the Board of Trustees and the Fellowship, and there would be no communication between them without an annual meeting of the two.

Although most of us are only aware of Conference in December each year when the newbatch of Questions from the Fellowship are released, the work goes on year round to implement the wishes of the Conference.

Here you will find the current Questions for Conference and the Final Report from the Board for Conference 2004.

Any single member, group or Intergroup can send a question to the Steering Committee of Conference.

The deadline for sending questions is August 31st each year, so for Conference 2026 the deadline would be August 31st 2025.

There is guidance in the Summer 2004 AA Service News for submitting a question. There is also a template for submission.
The Conference is held in York in April each year.
